The Dynamic Power of Words: Revealing Their Divine Origin

The word

I’ve been digging a lot into the WORD and its impact on us as believers, focusing specifically on the word, WORD.

The consensus in the world is that words are powerful and they shape our reality. What many have failed to analyze is HOW The Word is powerful. Where does that power come from to make the word powerful? It’s really dangerous to believe in something yet not know its owner.

Jesus answered and said to them, “Even if I bear witness of Myself, My witness is true, for I know where I came from and where I am going; but you do not know where I come from and where I am going. (John 8:14)

As Christians, we know where The Word comes from and who watches over it. In fact, if you go to John 1, this is what it says concerning The Word.

In the beginning, was The Word, and The Word was with God, and The Word was God. He was in the beginning with God.  All things were made through Him, and without Him, nothing was made that was made. (John 1:1-3)

Here are three things we can learn about The Word from the verse above.

  1. The word has been in existence since the beginning.

This reminds me of the verse below.

He who comes from above is above all; he who is of the earth is earthly and speaks of the earth. He who comes from heaven is above all. (John 3:31)

And He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence. (Colossians 1:18)

Preeminence means the fact of surpassing all others; superiority. The Word was here before we were here. The Word is the first cause, meaning the ultimate cause of all events, because The Word is God. It’s comforting and assuring to know that we are walking with a power that has all knowledge because He was here from the beginning and He created all things.

  1. The word is God, but when you jump to verse 14, we see that the word was made flesh – this is Jesus.

This is interesting because we see that God is the word, but is also Jesus. Why? Because the word was made flesh. When The Bible says this, it’s talking about Jesus. We know Jesus wasn’t born like us – He was made flesh, born through The Holy Spirit, the Virgin Mary. You see, something/someone from above cannot mingle with the powers and elements from below, the earth. He was showing a different way of being “born again” – which is through The Spirit. So God is The Word, The Word is Jesus, hence Jesus is God. Now I hope you understand why we talk about the trinity and how God is three persons in one: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. God is all these three in one.

  1. The word is God, so we, as Christians know where the power of the word comes from.

You see unlike the world, we don’t say affirmations without having knowledge of its power. Affirmations are positive words or statements you make about yourself, life, etc. The owner of our words is God because as you see in verse 1, the Word is God. This gives us the boldness to know that whatever we ask for, we receive. When we speak, we step out from using our own power and authority to using God’s. If the Bible says that the word is God, then this means when you speak, you’re speaking God. Do you get it? The word is God, so your words are essentially God. Now do you see why words carry life and death? These same words created the world and everything in it.

Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light. (Genesis 1:3)

What to take from this blog is: when you speak the word, you’re speaking God. Words are owned by God, and He will watch over what you confess to ensure they come to pass.

Then the LORD said to me, “You have seen well, for I am ready to perform My word.” (Jeremiah 1:12).

Next time you make declarations over yourself or affirmations, make them with the revelation that God will watch over them to perform them. We know where we come from and where we are going. We know what we speak and who watches over our confession to make sure it comes to pass.
