Faith is Like a Pen…

Faith is like the pen you use to write your life story. For a long time, I believed I knew how to write. I thought I knew the trajectory of my life and how things would flow.  However, I forgot a crucial lesson from Jeremiah 10:23, which says, “The way of man is not in himself; it is not in man who walks to direct his own steps.”

Actually, I didn’t forget; I didn’t even know this verse existed. So, I used various inks with my pen, my precious pen, causing it to write in a faulty manner. It drew lines I didn’t plan, leaked ink, and made a mess on my paper. I was confused, thinking I had the best pen. But did I?

I researched and invested heavily in this pen. I tried out other pens to make sure that my selection was certain. How did I miss the mark? Suddenly, God appeared and revealed there was nothing wrong with my pen; it was the ink that was faulty. Just like printers need specific inks, some pens need particular inks to function.

When I think of my relationship with God and the Word (Jesus), I love using metaphors. I let my mind paint a story that will connect me deeply to my maker. Faith as a pen makes sense because Hebrews 11:3 says, “By faith, we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God.” If my world is framed by God’s word, then faith is like a pen.

What story are you writing with your pen?

Are you using the right ink in your pen?

As the year winds up, some of you might not be where you want to be, and that’s okay. Grace is available every day, offering new mercies to keep going. Hang in there, review what’s working and what’s not, and step back to move forward.

Stepping back allows you to see the bigger picture, and it gives you room to evaluate and adjust things! You did great in 2023, and you made it! Celebrate yourself for this. May God’s will be done in your life.

Merry Christmas and Happy 2024!
