What is a journey? |understanding your life |Sheilla. A

A journey simply means to travel somewhere; it’s an act of travelling from one place to another. A journey can be one-way or a return trip. You will take many paths/roads; you will meet many people and you will engage in different activities. It can involve many stops along the way, or no stops at all. Are you going alone or with other people? Do you know what to carry with you? What mode of transportation will be used? Flights? roads? ships? walking? It may be short and simple, or long and difficult, with many obstacles along the way. Some definitions online say that a journey is often times long and difficult; but it doesn’t have to be so. Do you know that you can embark on a difficult journey full of many obstacles and be completely at peace?  Yes, you can! How you may ask? Firstly, by knowing who you are.

What is your Journey?

Your life is also a journey, and in your journey, which contains many trips, you will encounter many individuals, roads and activities. Before you embark on your journey, you have to plan your trip so that you can anticipate anything that comes your way. Many times we begin projects without proper planning and get surprised in the middle. Planning is one of the main aspects of a journey. You also have to consider who you’re going with. Does that journey require people to tag along, or is this an adventure that you have to take solo? Don’t take people along that will only be a burden or frustrate you.

Do you know who you are?

What is a journey? Understanding your journey means knowing who you are. Why? Because who you are indicates the roads, people, places and things you need in your life. It also indicates the things you will pass through in life. For example, I have a mental health organization. If you look at my background, you’ll see that I have a past of battling with depression and suicide ideation. Now I help others to overcome what I overcame. Read this article to know a bit about me. Destination

A journey starts with a destination in mind, right? So without this destination, how can you properly know where you are going? For example, if you’re going to be a doctor, you know you need to plan ahead for medicine school. Perhaps you need to look into scholarships and possible institutions to enroll at. Your journey is dictated by your destination, and not the other way around. Read this article that explains why the destination matters more. Click here

Who are you?

You’re going to hear me say this a lot of times, but it’s truly true. Who you are matters. Who are you? Not who the world says you are. WHO ARE YOU? Before I can explain this further, the first thing that you have to understand about you is this:

  1. Everything you will go through in life is connected to your purpose.
  2. Everything you will go through in life happens to build + shape you, and it is based on who you have been called to be.
  3. In life, the events that happen to you serve to either teach you or test you. Life will often times teach you, and after that comes the test; there’s no short cut – this is how life works.
  4. Your purpose will come with a set of rules for you to follow.

An example of how things work

For example, I bought an electrical water bottle recently. To me, it’s the best thing ever, because I like to save on electricity. This electrical gadget came with an instruction pamphlet, and so I went through it to learn how to operate my new heater. One of the things that it said was when heating it, you have to lay it on a flat surface for 15 minutes, and it would last for 5 hours. In the beginning, I must confess that I would put it on a flat surface, and sometimes I would want to hold it as it heats (which it states that you cannot do). Once I started bending the rules to suit me, I noticed that it would make a certain buzzing noise + I also got burned because I would lay it directly on my stomach. Realizing that I made a mistake, I quickly started following the instructions before I ruined my newly purchased product.

How many times have we messed up our lives because we can’t follow the manual? Oh yes! You came with a manual!

You also come with instructions

You are programmed in a similar manner. You have instructions inside of you that you are meant to follow. Many people complain of feeling empty and dull, and this is mostly connected to not understanding who you are + your journey. If you were called to be a doctor, you have no business being a cook. If you’re called to be a pilot, you have no business being a truck driver. What are your specific instructions?

So I ask you- what is a journey to you? And specifically, what is your journey? If you know who you are, then you take everything that comes at you as a test or a lesson. By doing so, understanding your journey becomes easier. You also need to isolate things that you could be damaging to your life’s journey.
