Your Will Be Done (part 1) | Sheilla Akwara

This is perhaps one of the most potent prayers you can ever utter. Simply put, it has the ability to align everything that is crooked, uprooting or casting aside anything that does not align with God’s plan for your life.

This is part of a comprehensive two-part series that will lead us into our fast tomorrow on 7/6 & 7/7. It is crucial that we prepare ourselves mentally for the battle ahead. Yes, you heard it right; this is warfare. When you use this prayer, God responds, just as He did for David in Psalm 18. There is no room for negotiation with the obstacles before you; they must be moved. (Make sure you read all of Psalm 18)

In Psalm 18, it is written:

“In my distress I called upon the Lord, And cried out to my God; He heard my voice from His temple, And my cry came before Him, even to His ears. Then the earth shook and trembled; The foundations of the hills also quaked and were shaken, Because He was angry.”

(Psalm 18:6-7)

When God intervenes on your behalf, anything obstructing the path of righteousness is demolished because it was not aligned with His will. This battle can often be intense, which is why many people grow weary and may even experience sadness. However, Psalm 18 reminds us not to confuse God’s presence with the attacks of the enemy. The weightiness of God’s presence may cause shaking and upheaval as He moves on your behalf.

25See that you do not refuse Him who speaks. For if they did not escape who refused Him who spoke on earth, much more shall we not escape if we turn away from Him who speaks from heaven, 26whose voice then shook the earth; but now He has promised, saying, “Yet once more I [k]shake not only the earth, but also heaven.” 27Now this, “Yet once more,” indicates the removal of those things that are being shaken, as of things that are made, that the things which cannot be shaken may remain.

Hebrews 12:25-27

Now, let me ask you: What aspect of your life do you desire to align with God’s will? Are you seeking healing from sickness? It is God’s will for you to be healed. Are you in need of guidance or feeling confused about the path to take? Remember that God has granted us a spirit of sound mind.

There are various definitions of the word “will,” and we will explore some of them in the coming days. For now, I encourage you to reflect on your request as we prepare for the fast. Alongside your request, write down corresponding verses from the Word of God that you will stand upon. Use these when praying and fasting. When engaged in spiritual warfare, it is crucial to equip ourselves with the designated weapons: the powerful words found in Scripture are our weapons.

Let’s look at an example:

” I pray for God to align my vision with His will. At times, when I am about to embark on a mission, doubts creep in, causing me to hesitate or give up all together.”

Verses to stand on:

  • “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” – Joshua 1:9
  • “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.” – Proverbs 3:5-6
  • “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.” – John 14:26
  • “But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and you know all things.” – 1 John 2:20

If your matter mirrors the above, as you begin your fast and during the day, make sure you use the verses above to pray over your issue. It is the word of God that causes disruptions and aligns you with His will. Use His word! Trust in His guidance as you prepare for this spiritual battle. It is time to rise to a new level of faith and surrender.

Talking about surrender, sometimes we are our worst enemy, and we stand in our own way. Our own thoughts, doubts, fears, and misguided actions can hinder us from fully embracing God’s plan for our lives. This self-sabotaging behavior can lead to many pitfalls and should be addressed. Look out for the next blog on this series tomorrow on how to deal with this.
